Okkervil River - The Valley
This is probably the strongest opening track Okkervil River has done so far. Yes, I am aware of what the first tracks of The Stage Names and (kind of) The Stand Ins were. But this delivers something the band never has before.
I mean it’s still Okkervil River, they’re just in new territory. They’ve achieved huge sounds before, and they definitely know what sinister sounds like (though evil don’t look like anything)… but the sound of this track is absolutely massive.
I don’t know, I can’t wait for about a couple weeks from now where I know every word and every tiny moment and can write a lot more incoherently and passionately about this

ok extracurriculars
John starts out the year with the idea that he will not do anything outside of class but then he does really well in the softball unit in gym, like dang that kid has a wicked swing. it’s actually dave who convinces him to try out for the team. other than that, john went to one meeting of the anime club (never again).
Dave also started the year with no real goal as to his extracurriculars. but after john joins the softball team, he suddenly has a lot more time on his hands, and he is encouraged by rose and jade to join the art club (his art is actually pretty good when he isn’t being ironic about it like a douche). he joins the art club but he doesn’t form the same bond with it like john did with softball.
rose took philosophy and her teacher recommended psychology club to her. this takes up one afternoon a week. she is also in poetry club, which takes up another afternoon. she still has a lot of time to hang out with friends.
jade is in the science bowl team. she is quite knowledgeable on the subject, and also she possesses a strange knack for guessing the answers she doesn’t know. (she actively attends anime club meetings.)
